In this episode, Clare Balding continues her walk along the South Downs Way from Ditchling Beacon near Brighton to Devil’s Dyke. Accompanying her, Jeremy Burgess of the AONB South Downs and film maker Matt Hulse who walked the entire South Downs Way with his girlfriend Lucy Brown and dog Tippy in tribute to his grandfather Eric (who died in 2008 aged 96).
Matt’s film Follow The Master documents the walk from Winchester to Eastbourne.
He talks to Clare about his affection for the stretch of the South Downs around Lewes where he would walk with his grandfather as a child.
Skillfully edited out by Auntie BBC is any mention of the naked kite flying incident, several references to Ivor Cutler & William McGonagall and also Matt’s rant about the outrageously dangerous stretch of the South Downs Way which forces walkers to cross an incredibly busy dual carriage way. Ramblings is produced by Maggie Ayre.
Matt, Lucy & Tippy have also ventured into the world of TV, recently appearing on STV’s Six O’Clock news ← click to watch.
